The recently-discovered third monolith discovered on top of Atascadero’s Pine Mountain in California excites curious internet surfers and hikers alike as it appeared shortly after the discovery of the second monolith found in Romania less than a week ago. It’s the third obelisk to show up over the course of just two weeks, the first one being in Utah back in late November.

The exact purpose and origin of these odd structures remain unknown, nor who keeps putting and removing them after it gets reported by the media. Some theorists suggest it could simply be installations for an artistic project yet to be announced or unveiled, while others think it could possibly be related to an ARG or Alternate Reality Game.
